About Us

My Story

Hi, I’m Emma — an adventurer, writer, diver, hiker, and follower of Jesus Christ.

I started Theory of Roaming because I believed travel was the ultimate way to live a full life. For years, my husband and I explored the world together — wandering cobblestone streets in Europe, floating over Cappadocia’s fairy chimneys, and chasing sunsets in far-off places. It was beautiful, but I found myself craving more than just stamps in my passport.

What I’ve learned is that true adventure isn’t only about where you go — it’s about the hard, uncomfortable, soul-stretching moments that change you forever. Hiking the John Muir Trail alone for 220 miles. Pushing past fear on a pitch-black Pelagic Blackwater dive in Kona. Wrestling with faith and identity, and discovering freedom in my relationship with the Lord.

Now, I share not just my travels, but the full spectrum of what it means to live an adventurous life — the joy, the suffering, the faith, and the grit it takes to keep going. My hope is that this space becomes a guide and a companion for anyone who’s searching for something deeper in their own journey.

Our Story

Chase is who you’ll see pop up very often in my story. He’s my husband and accompanies me on almost all of my adventures — unless his work pulls him away for a bit. We met when I was 21 and he was 22, in Thailand. From there, our life quickly turned into one long unfolding adventure — from living in Hawaii to now spending a few years in Europe.

We recognized early on something in each other that just felt right. Two people who didn’t want an ordinary life, realizing we had found someone equally crazy enough to chase summits and equally determined to build something meaningful. A couple months into dating, we packed up for a 5½-week road trip across the U.S. That summer we hit the major national parks, hiked Angels Landing, summited Capitol Peak and Longs Peak, climbed Half Dome, and pushed ourselves in ways that made it very clear — this wasn’t casual. Somewhere between the miles, the blisters, and the thin air, I knew he was the one.

Our faith didn’t deepen together overnight. That part came later — slowly, through growth, hardship, and choosing to lean back toward God side by side. Since then, we’ve explored Europe’s hidden streets, skied and ice-dived in the French Alps, drifted in total darkness 3,000 feet above the ocean floor in Hawaii, and built a life that feels equal parts wild and intentional.

The places have been unforgettable, but what’s mattered most is that every adventure has shaped us. We’ve learned that the best stories aren’t just about where you go, but who you become along the way — and we’re still writing ours.
